Co-founder, Scientific Advisor
Mark is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Chemistry at BU with expertise in polymers, materials chemistry, and translating laboratory discoveries to commercial medical device products. As a Distinguished Professor of Translational Research, he is interested in highly interdisciplinary research that combines the areas of biomedical engineering and macromolecular chemistry. Among his awards, Mark received the Innovator of the Year (by the Boston University Office of Technology Development), the Edward M. Kennedy Award for Health Care Innovation Award, and was named a founding fellow of the National Academy of Inventors for his record of translating innovative research from bench-to-bedside. He has published more than 265 peer-reviewed manuscripts and given more than 300 oral presentations. He is the co-founder of several other startup companies that are commercializing his technologies. One of his pharmaceutical technologies and four of his medical device products are being sold and used in the clinic. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois and was an NIH postdoctoral fellow at Caltech.
